Why it is renowned

Audo Copenhagen sells furniture, lighting and accessories for homes, hotels and offices worldwide, and keeps a showroom in New York.¹² It is part of the Milan-based Flos B&B Italia Group, alongside B&B Italia, Flos and Louis Poulsen; the group bought its Danish parent in 2022 to grow in northern Europe and the United States.³⁴ WWD in New York and Surface covered its launch under the new name in 2023, and it has taken part in Salone del Mobile in Milan, NeoCon in Chicago and Modernism Week in Palm Springs.⁴²

The story

Simon Hansen founded the company in Copenhagen in 1978 as Danish Steel House; as Menu, his son Bjarne Hansen and grandson Joachim Kornbek Engell-Hansen turned it into a lifestyle brand.¹⁴ By Lassen looked after the designs of the architect brothers Mogens and Flemming Lassen.¹ The two merged and took the name Audo Copenhagen on 1 June 2023.¹⁴

The name comes from The Audo, a 1918 trading building in Copenhagen's Nordhavn district that Norm Architects turned into a showroom, café, restaurant and residence, opened in 2019.¹⁵ Now Audo House, it is the company's headquarters.¹ Norm Architects designed some of the first Menu pieces and still design for Audo, among them the Plinth and Eave collections.²
