Why it is renowned

&Tradition makes the Flowerpot, the lamp Verner Panton designed in 1968, and it is the maker the official Panton archive names for the model in production today.¹ Its catalogue joins new pieces by foreign designers with reissues: the Spanish designer Jaime Hayon has made its Formakami pendants, Palette tables and Elefy chair, and the Stockholm-based designer Luca Nichetto its Cloud sofas.²³ The Robin and Lucienne Day Foundation in Britain licenses it to reissue Robin Day's furniture from 1951.⁴⁵

The international design press follows its launches. Designboom has covered it at Maison et Objet in Paris in 2015, at imm cologne in 2017 and at Milan Design Week in 2019.⁶²³

The story

&Tradition was founded in Copenhagen in 2010.⁷ In 2015 its managing director was Martin Kornbek Hansen.² The house is based at Kronprinsessegade 4 in Copenhagen.¹

Alongside new commissions it brings back older designs. In 2019 it put into production pieces by Hvidt & Mølgaard from the 1950s and 1960s, among them the Spindle floor lamp of 1953, made then for the first time, and the Boomerang lounge chair of 1965.³ From Robin Day it reissues the Hillestak chair and table and his RFH lounge, dining and terrace chairs, all from 1951.⁴
