About the guide

What it is

Danish Luxury is a guide to the things Denmark makes that are known far beyond it: the furniture, lighting and silver in museum collections abroad, the speakers and the toys found in homes around the world, the hotels and restaurants people travel for, the licorice and the akvavit. Each page says what the thing is, why it is renowned, where it comes from and what to know it by, and links to the maker's own site.

What gets in

Two tests. It is Danish: founded in Denmark and still designed, made or run from here. And it is renowned beyond Denmark, which something outside the maker shows: a museum collection abroad, a royal warrant, Michelin stars, an international prize, shops and homes in many countries. A good local maker that is little known abroad is not left out for being small, only for not being known yet. Price never puts anything in and never keeps anything out.

How it is kept current

Every fact comes from a source, and the sources are listed at the foot of each page. Each page is checked against its sources again on a fixed interval: hotels and restaurants every 90 days, houses and their products every 180. A page that has not been checked in time leaves the guide until it is, and a house that closes, or a product no longer made, leaves it the day that is found.

The rules

• Danish, and known abroad. Every house, product and place here was founded in Denmark and is known well beyond it: in museum collections, in the Michelin Guide, in shops and homes around the world.
• Straight to the maker. Every page links to one site only: the maker's own. No shops, no affiliate links, no tracking, no paid placement.
• Only what we can show. Every fact comes from a source, and the sources are on the page for anyone who looks. What we could not source is left out.
• Kept current. Every page is checked against its sources again on a fixed schedule, and leaves the guide when what it describes is no longer made or open.

Pictures and names

Pictures show the thing itself and come from the maker's own site. Their copyright, and every name and trademark in the guide, belongs to the maker; the terms say more.
