Why it is renowned
Muuto sold through some 1,300 distributors in 52 countries by 2014.1 In 2018 the American furniture maker Knoll bought the company, and it is now part of MillerKnoll.1
The story
Kristian Byrge, who had earlier been involved in founding the restaurant Noma, started Muuto with Peter Bonnén in Copenhagen in 2006.1 It works with Scandinavian designers, who are paid royalties; in 2019 it made the Strand lights with Benjamin Hubert, its first British designer.1 Since 2010 it has run an annual award for Nordic design students.1
