Why it is renowned

Mogens Lassen drew the first Kubus in 1962, and it is still made more than sixty years later; its maker counts it among the best-loved pieces of Danish design.1 It has grown into a series of holders in several sizes, metals and finishes.1 Audo Copenhagen makes it today.1

The story

Mogens Lassen, a pioneer of Danish functionalism who took his cues from the Bauhaus, designed the first Kubus candleholder in 1962 for a restaurant interior in North Zealand.1 The holder is a plain cube-shaped metal frame; the Kubus 8 holds eight candles.1 It comes in a range of metals and finishes.1
