The story
The hotel stands on the corner of Vester Voldgade and Stormgade, close to City Hall Square.3 The corner house was built in the early 1790s for the court confectioner Jens Raae; the other building went up in 1969 where the Missionshotellet annex had stood.3 The hotel reopened in 2017 after a rebuilding by the architect Morten Hedegaard.1 The 1969 building is now clad in 4,200 glazed green tiles, a nod to the green of Copenhagen's park benches.2 Inside are cherry wood panels, brass and marble, an indoor vineyard with a black marble floor and a fireplace, and a roof terrace on top.2 The hallways take their colours and mosaic carpets from Thorvaldsens Museum nearby, and the headboards are leather, after the seats of an old car.2 It belongs to Brøchner Hotels, founded in 1982 by Bergliot and Hans Brøchner-Mortensen and owned today by their son Søren and his wife Mette.4
