Why it is renowned
The MICHELIN Guide selects Hotel Hans among its hotels in Copenhagen, noting its textured concrete, steel light fittings, forest green and marble, and its bar given to vermouth.1 The Falstaff Hotel Guide Nordics 2026 lists it as well.2
The story
The hotel fills a red-brick building of 1900 on Åboulevard, designed by Emil Blichfeldt, the architect of the entrance to Tivoli Gardens.3 It was the Avenue Hotel until Brøchner Hotels rebuilt it; Hotel Hans opened in November 2025 with 91 rooms and suites.3 It is named after Hans Brøchner-Mortensen, who founded Brøchner Hotels with his wife Bergliot in 1982.45 Their son Søren and his wife Mette own the company today.5 The design plays on the two districts the hotel sits between: concrete, industrial lamps and asphalt-style floors for Nørrebro at the street, green marble and floor-to-ceiling curtains for Frederiksberg further in.4 Neon and concrete artworks made by the Brøchner family with Pettersen & Hein hang in the hotel.3
