Why it is renowned

Palette is known as Jaime Hayon's table that borrows from Alexander Calder's mobiles: shapes of different sizes, colours and materials seem to float, held in place by a thin metal frame.12 &Tradition launched the series at Maison et Objet in Paris in 2015, together with Hayon's Formakami lamps and Luca Nichetto's Cloud sofas.1 Each table gives three surfaces at different heights.1

The story

Jaime Hayon, a Spanish artist and designer, set up his own studio in Valencia in 2000.2 He drew the Palette tables for &Tradition in 2015 as a way to bring several sizes, shapes and materials into one piece.21 At the launch, &Tradition's brand director Martin Kornbek Hansen described the marble as the noble part, the oak as the earthy one and the metal as what holds them together.1

The base is welded from steel tube and powder coated black.2 The tops are cut by laser from satin-polished brass, polished Nero Marquina marble and stained ash or walnut veneer.2 The series includes the JH7 lounge table, the JH25 coffee table and the JH9 desk; the JH7 is made for &Tradition in Poland.2 The JH7 lounge table comes with tops of brass, Nero Marquina marble and black lacquered ash.2
