Why it is renowned
In the Flowerpot, two half-spheres face each other, the upper twice as wide as the lower, which hides the bulb and throws coloured light back from inside.1 The official Panton archive counts it among the defining designs of its time, still liked by new generations, and lists it as a model in serial production today.2 It has had three makers: Louis Poulsen, then Unique Interior from 2008 to 2011, and &Tradition since 2011.1
The story
Verner Panton designed the Flowerpot in 1968.31 The first lamps were of enamelled industrial metal in turquoise, white, red, orange or polished steel, in two sizes.1
&Tradition makes both shades from spun steel, painted or plated, and offers the VP1 pendant in about twenty finishes, from Zesty Orange and Steel Blue to brass and chrome plating and a wavy blue pattern.3 The VP1 is 23 cm across.3 The family also takes in the VP2, VP7 and VP10 pendants, the VP3 and VP4 table lamps, the VP12 floor lamp and two chandeliers, the Chandelier VP1 and Chandelier VP10.3 The VP9 is a small cordless version that can be carried from table to counter.4
