Sibast Furniture

Why it is renowned

Sibast Furniture is known for Helge Sibast's No 8 dining chair.¹ In the 1950s and 1960s the original Sibast factory sold its furniture around the world.²

The design magazine Design Milk covered its RIB outdoor collection by Morten Anker in 2024.³

The story

Helge Sibast was born on Funen in 1908, the son of a cabinetmaker who founded the family company that year and passed his skills on to him.²¹ By the 1950s and 1960s the factory employed more than 120 craftsmen.² He designed the No 8 chair in 1953.¹ After his death in 1985 the firm left the family.²

In 2013 his grandson Ditlev Sibast and Ditlev's wife Anna came across the No 8 and relaunched it under the old name.² The chair is made to order in oak or beech from FSC-certified forests.¹ The range has since grown with pieces by Arne Vodder, Piet Hein, Naja Utzon Popov, Henrik Hvid Hansen and Steffensen & Würtz.⁴ In 2025 Sibast bought the upholstered furniture maker Bent Hansen, whose Primum chair is now part of the collection.² The showroom is at Store Strandstræde 20 in Copenhagen.⁵
