Why it is renowned

The No 8 is known for its Y-shaped legs, its floating seat and its moulded backrest, a frame Helge Sibast worked out in the workshop.1 The reissue won a German Design Award in 2019 in the furniture category for excellent product design; the jury pointed to the play of lines, seen best from the side.2 The chair was also nominated for the Bo Bedre Design Award in 2013 and won a Hotel Award in 2014.1

The story

Helge Sibast, a cabinetmaker, designed the No 8 in 1953.12 In 2013 his grandson Ditlev Sibast and Anna Sibast brought the chair back.2 Sibast Furniture makes it to order in its own workshop, in oak or beech from FSC-certified forests.1 The wood comes soaped, oiled, white-pigmented, black, smoked or stained, and the seat is upholstered in leather or wool.1 The chair is approved for heavy contract use.1
