Why it is renowned

Finn Juhl furnished the Trusteeship Council Chamber at the United Nations headquarters in New York in 1951–52, a room now often called the Finn Juhl Chamber.¹² Edgar Kaufmann Jr. of the Museum of Modern Art wrote about him in Interiors in 1948, and his work toured the United States in the Arts of Denmark exhibition that opened at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 1960.²¹ House of Finn Juhl's reissue of the Baker Sofa won a Wallpaper Design Award in 2010, and the company has a shop in Hong Kong.²

The story

Finn Juhl, born in Frederiksberg in 1912, trained as an architect and showed his furniture at the Copenhagen Cabinetmakers' Guild exhibitions with the joiner Niels Vodder from 1937.¹ In 2000 his partner Hanne Wilhelm Hansen passed the rights to his designs to Onecollection, founded by Ivan Hansen and Hans Henrik Sørensen, which later took the name House of Finn Juhl.²¹ In 2001 it put the Pelican Chair of 1940 into production for the first time; the Grasshopper Chair of 1938 followed in 2018.¹
