Why it is renowned

Lyngdorf Audio is known abroad through its work with the piano maker Steinway & Sons, which in 2007 gave it the sole right to build audio systems under the name Steinway Lyngdorf.¹ The first of them, the Model D loudspeaker system, was launched that year with the aim of reproducing the sound of a Steinway grand piano as closely as possible.²

Its RoomPerfect room correction, developed in 2006, measures the room in three dimensions and adapts the system to it.² The company has offices in the United Kingdom and the United States, and Steinway Lyngdorf became a member of the High End Society, the German association behind the HIGH END show in Munich, in May 2021.³⁴

The story

Peter Lyngdorf started as a distributor of hi-fi components in 1975, founded the retail chain HiFi Klubben in 1980 and the loudspeaker brand DALI in 1983.⁵ In 1997 he invested in the Danish start-up Toccata Technology, whose Equibit technology led to the Millennium, an all-digital amplifier, in 1999.⁵² He founded Lyngdorf Audio in Denmark in 2005 to make loudspeakers and amplifiers under his own name.²

The company is based in Skive, and its Steinway Lyngdorf systems are designed, developed and made in Denmark.³⁴ The Steinway Lyngdorf loudspeakers are assembled by hand, in more than 170 hours each, from parts that include gold, brass and aluminium; each weighs 174 kg.¹ In 2014 Lyngdorf Audio introduced its current design, a black aluminium and glass front with a volume wheel, beginning with the TDAI-2170 amplifier.²
