Why it is renowned

Gryphon's first product, the Head Amp, drew a Japanese distributor at the 1986 Consumer Electronics Show in Chicago and was voted a Best Buy by the Japanese audio press.¹ Its amplifiers are dual mono and mostly pure class A, black with acrylic front panels, and change little from one year to the next.²

The story

Flemming E. Rasmussen studied painting and graphic arts at the Aarhus Art Academy, taught for ten years and designed for a sportswear maker before founding 2R Marketing, an importer of high-end audio.¹ Gryphon Audio Designs grew out of it in 1985, and in 1993 the import business was closed so he could work on Gryphon alone.¹ Every product is designed and made in Denmark, at the factory in Ry, and each unit is tested and auditioned by ear before it leaves.¹²
