Why it is renowned

The Apex is the top of Gryphon's range: Hi-Fi News describes it as the flagship, more than twice the price and twice the weight of the Antileon.1 Stereophile reviewed the Apex Stereo, an amplifier of 445 lb that its reviewer put in place of his reference monoblocks, and it is listed in the class A solid-state category of Stereophile's Recommended Components.23

The story

Gryphon introduced the Apex in 2022, drawing on its work on the Antileon EVO and the Mephisto; Tom Møller designed the electronics and Flemming E. Rasmussen the exterior.4 It is a dual-mono design without global negative feedback, with class A J-FET input buffers, two 2,000 VA toroidal transformers and more than a farad of capacitance in its capacitor banks.42

The Apex Stereo gives 210 watts a channel in class A into 8 ohms, rising to 1,490 watts into 1 ohm.4 The case is black aluminium with constrained-layer damping and non-magnetic materials to keep out interference.4 It has three bias settings, and it is designed and made in Denmark.42
