Why it is renowned
The Activity Play Mat is one of the Done by Deer designs that won the Red Dot Design Award before 2018.1 The Red Dot jury described it as a discreet, well-made alternative to the usual brightly coloured play arches.2
The story
The mat was designed in quiet single colours to sit in a modern home.2 Five toys that can be moved along the arches play to the baby’s senses: Croco, a crackling crocodile; Elphee, a rattling elephant; a small mirror; and two balloons, one with a chime and one with a bell.2 The arches fasten with Velcro and come off, so the quilted mat can be used on its own.2 The mat sold today is 90 centimetres across and 48 centimetres high, with four hanging toys of cotton and polyester filled with recycled fibre.3
