Why it is renowned
The marzipan bread is the product Anthon Berg is best known for, and it has become a Danish classic.12 In 1956 it went on sale on the ferry from Copenhagen to Landskrona, and later that year on SAS flights from Copenhagen.3
The story
Anthon Berg began selling confectionery from his shop on Gammel Strand in Copenhagen in 1884, and the queue outside it grew steadily. To treat the waiting customers he invented the marzipan bread and handed out small pieces of it; in 1898 it went into production as a product of its own.2
It comes as classic marzipan in dark chocolate, Nougat, Cognac, Mocca, Hasselnød and Baileys, the newest, in large and small sizes.4
