Why it is renowned

When the Bullitt was first shown at the Berlin Fahrradschau on 1 September 2008 it weighed half as much as the classic long john, and the Norwegian Cargobike Magazine later called it an urban icon of the new cargo bike movement.1 It is one of the cargo bikes Copenhagen is known for.2 Couriers took to it early: for a period 30 to 40 percent of the bikes went to professional cycle messengers.1

The story

Lars Malmborg, who had designed the Kangaroo cargo tricycle at Winther, drew the Bullitt after Hans Bullitt Fogh asked for a lighter, faster long john; the frame and the cargo platform were made as one piece.1 In 2015 about 500 were built a year.1 The Original Bullitt has no motor and carries up to 300 litres; the Bullitt X of 2022 is 220 mm longer and carries up to 400.3 The electric versions use Shimano drive systems, and the Kiddo is set up with a canopy and seats for two children.3
