Why it is renowned
AOC holds two stars in the Michelin Guide. Christian Aarø Mortensen received the first on 16 March 2010, the second came in 2015, and the restaurant is among the Danish two-star restaurants of 2026.1 It is known for modern Nordic cooking built on local produce, served with wines from both the old and the new world chosen by Aarø himself.2
The story
The restaurant opened in 2004 under the name Prémisse and took the name AOC, short for Aarø & Co, in 2009.1 Christian Aarø Mortensen, a sommelier, owns it.1 Ronny Emborg was head chef until 2013, when Søren Selin took over the kitchen.3
AOC sits under the vaulted cellar ceilings of Moltkes Palæ, the town mansion on the corner of Bredgade and Dronningens Tværgade, a few steps from Kongens Nytorv.32 The dining room seats 40 guests at round tables, and a separate room takes private parties.2
