Why it is renowned

The MICHELIN Guide lists Hotel Petra in its hotel selection for Copenhagen as a new entry.1 Dezeen reported its opening in 2025 as the first hotel of the furniture house &Tradition.2

The story

Petra sits on Dronningens Tværgade, next to the King's Garden and Rosenborg Castle, in a former guest house once known as Christian IV.3 The building was designed by the Danish architect Kay Fisker in the functionalist manner.3 The MICHELIN Guide dates it to 1943.1 The hotel is a joint venture between &Tradition, founded in Copenhagen in 2010, and Copenhagen Design Hotels.4 It opened in 2025 during the 3 Days of Design festival.2

The renovation kept the original terrazzo floors, wooden stair banisters, brass fittings and curved wall details.1 &Tradition's design team chose the furniture, lighting and objects from its own collection, and matched the base colour of the rooms to a shade Fisker used in his buildings.52 The hotel takes its name from Viggo Boesen's Petra chair.1 The reception counter is faced with Dzek x Formafantasma tiles.1 &Tradition's headquarters and showroom are around the corner, facing the King's Garden.1
