Hotel Sanders

Why it is renowned

Hotel Sanders is a member of the international hotel association SLH, which lists it among four Danish hotels.¹² It has been written about in the Financial Times, The Times, Condé Nast Traveler, Vogue Paris, Tatler Asia and Forbes, among others.³

The story

Alexander Kølpin, trained at the Royal Danish Ballet's school and later a theatre director, made the hotel a personal project; he and his father, the architect Jes Kølpin, own it through Kølpin Hotels, which also runs Helenekilde Badehotel in Tisvilde.⁴² It stands on a cobbled street behind the old stage of the Royal Theatre, close to Nyhavn and Amalienborg.⁵ Its 54 rooms range from small Coupé rooms modelled on old sleeping-car cabins to apartments with open fireplaces, furnished in rattan, bamboo, velvet and green leather.⁵² Sanders Residence, a building from 1801, looks over the King's Garden by Rosenborg Castle.²
