Why it is renowned
Condé Nast Traveler reviews Manon Les Suites as the Guldsmeden group's most upmarket house and singles out its pool, hung with fish-shaped lamps and set among palms and terracotta pots.1 The group that runs it has hotels in Oslo, Reykjavík, Berlin, Bremen, Menton and Bali as well as Denmark.2
The story
Sandra and Marc Weinert opened their first hotel on Guldsmedgade in Aarhus in 1999 and named the group after the street.32 They took over the building on Gyldenløvesgade, then run by Girst Hotels, on 1 October 2016 and reopened it as Manon Les Suites in April 2017 after a full renovation.2 The 87 suites have four-poster beds, kitchenettes, wooden floors and louvred blinds, with the Balinese touches found across the group's hotels.12 The Junglefish Pool lies at the heart of the house; on the roof are a sauna and steam bath, a lounge and the restaurant Chapung, and below ground the cocktail bar Libellule.4
