Danish butter cookies: the makers to know

Butter cookies, made from butter, flour and sugar, come from Denmark, which has exported them for many years, above all to the United States and Asia. Exported cookies are packed in round tins, stacked in paper cups, and the blue tin is so often kept for sewing things or recipes that it has become a running joke. Royal Dansk has baked its cookies in Denmark since 1966; its two bakeries in Nørre Snede and Ribe make more than 25,000 tonnes a year.
