Why it is renowned

Kjeldsens butter cookies reached Asia in the 1960s, first Hong Kong and then mainland China, where the brand is still sold.12 In Hong Kong a tin of butter cookies is a common gift at Lunar New Year.3 Kelsen Group, which bakes Kjeldsens, is a supplier to the Royal Danish Court.4

The story

Marinus and Anna Kjeldsen opened a small family bakery, Kjeldsen & Co., in central Jutland in 1933, and Marinus first sold the cookies in the villages nearby.1 In 1990 Kjeldsen merged with Royal Dansk to form Kelsen.5 The cookies are baked in Denmark to a traditional recipe and without additives; the brand is run from Kelsen's company in Asia.12
