Why it is renowned

Condé Nast Traveler names Andersen & Maillard among the best bakeries in Copenhagen, for its laminated croissants and flat whites, and recommends the cube croissant.1 VisitCopenhagen lists it among the city's best bakeries and pastry shops and singles out the croissants, served in summer with soft ice made in the house.2

The story

The barista Hans Kristian Andersen and the pastry chef Milton Abel, who had worked at Noma, started Andersen & Maillard.1 Abel had also cooked at Amass.2

The first shop opened in 2018 at Nørrebrogade 62, a coffee shop with its own roastery.3 It sits in a former bank, and the coffee is roasted about ten metres from the bar.2 A bakery followed in 2019 at Antwerpengade 10 in Nordhavn, and a third shop opened at Ny Østergade 15 in the city centre.3
