Why it is renowned
Patrik Rolf brewed on a prototype of the April Brewer at the 2019 World Brewers Cup in Boston, where he took the silver medal and served the highest-scoring cup.1 European Coffee Trip covered its launch on Kickstarter in November 2019, when the campaign was already more than 250 percent funded.1 Daily Coffee News dates the brewer to 2019 and names it as the start of the April equipment that followed.2
The story
April spent two years and several prototypes on the brewer, which Rolf designed to brew the light roasts of modern coffee better.31 Rolf built three versions, working above all on the base, which sets the flow rate by how the air circulates.1 For production he worked with Serax, which helped turn his hand-made prototype into a version whose three pieces fit together.1 The brewer now comes in ceramic, plastic and glass, and in a Hybrid version, a glass brewer with an immersion function to control the flow.3 April has since added paper filters, servers and cups, and runs a brewing competition built around the brewer.32
