Why it is renowned
Apiales is Nuura's flower chandelier: mouth-blown glass globes on arms that unfold from a single canopy like the stalks of an umbellifer.12 Its largest model, Apiales 18, carries eighteen globes and measures 89 cm across.2
Asked about her designs in a 2024 interview during 3 Days of Design in Copenhagen, Sofie Refer named the simplicity of the flower-like Apiales chandelier among the qualities she likes in her work.3
The story
The Danish lighting designer Sofie Refer designed Apiales with flowers as her starting point.14 The collection began as two chandeliers, with nine or eighteen mouth-blown globes, in brushed brass or satin black.1
It has since grown to Apiales 6, a cross between the chandelier and the single pendant, ceiling-mounted versions of the 6 and the 9, a cluster chandelier, pendants and wall lamps.45 The globes are opal glass, with optic gold glass on the brass models.5
