Why it is renowned

Normann Copenhagen commissions furniture, lighting and household objects from Danish and foreign designers, among them Ole Jensen, Francis Cayouette, Ross McBride, Karim Rashid and Marcel Wanders.¹ Its designs have won international prizes: red dot design awards for Ole Jensen's Familia kitchen series and Francis Cayouette's Normann knives in 2007 and for Ross McBride's Dolly in 2010, iF product design awards for Familia tableware in 2008 and for Dolly and Heima in 2010, Good Design Awards in 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2009, and an ICFF Editors Award for Move in 2007.¹

The story

Poul Madsen and Jan Andersen started Normann Copenhagen in 1999 as a shop on Strandboulevarden in Copenhagen.¹ The first product under the company's own name, the Norm 69 lamp by Simon Karkow, followed in 2002 and was named best item at imm Cologne in 2003.¹ In 2005 the company moved into a 1,700 m² store on Østerbrogade; its head office is in Copenhagen and its flagship store fills the former Triangel Teatret on Østerbro.¹
