Why it is renowned

The Arv chair was made for noma, René Redzepi's restaurant in Copenhagen, when it moved to its new home in 2018, and the design press abroad wrote about it then.1 Designmuseum Danmark has acquired one for its collection.2 It also furnishes TimeSpirit at The Macallan Estate in Speyside, Scotland.2

The story

René Redzepi asked the Copenhagen architect David Thulstrup to design the new noma and its furniture, and Thulstrup brought in Brdr. Krüger, who had a prototype ready within a week of seeing the sketches.1 The chair sits between a dining and a desk chair; its frame joins 15 parts with precise joinery and CNC milling, and the curved back leg runs into the backrest and armrest.12 With the Arv table, it makes up the ARV collection made for noma.1 Arv is Danish for heritage.2 It is made in fumed, oiled or white oak, with a seat of Danish paper cord or leather, with or without arms.2
