Why it is renowned
Ga-Jol is known as one of the oldest Danish liquorice pastilles still sold today, alongside the 1923 liquorice lace and 1938 Lagerman's liquorice fudge, and its original blue box won Denmark's Klassiker prize for design in 2001. 1 2
The story
Galle & Jessen launched the Ga-Jol pastille in 1933 in a blue box, today kept for Ga-Jol Original; the name is a shortened form of the maker's name. 2 The pastille is made with raw liquorice and ammonium chloride, the salmiak that gives it its salty bite. 3
