Peter Beier

Why it is renowned

Peter Beier is the only Danish chocolatier to own its cacao plantation: an organic farm in the Dominican Republic, bought in 2002, where the beans are fermented, roasted and conched before the chocolate goes to Ørsholt Gods.¹ Its chocolates reached Singapore in 2020, when the lifestyle magazine Avenue One covered the launch of its Heart Collection there and singled out the ruby chocolate heart.² The American chocolate site The Chocolate Life lists its shops in a 2025 guide to chocolate in Copenhagen, and the travel site Copenhagen Tourism names it, with Anthon Berg and Summerbird, among the Danish chocolate to take home.³⁴

The story

Peter Beier, born in Slangerup in 1965, trained as a pastry chef in Stubbekøbing and from 1987 ran the chocolate workshop of the Copenhagen department store Magasin du Nord.⁵ He founded the company with Linda Beier, a lawyer, in 1996, and the first Peter Beier shop opened in Copenhagen in 2000.⁵ More shops followed in Denmark, and later in Malmö and Helsingborg in Sweden and, in 2016, in Dubai.⁵

The chocolate is made at Ørsholt Gods, an estate at Gurre outside Helsingør, which is also the head office and has a shop of its own.⁵⁶¹ The range runs from filled chocolates and chocolate bars to the Danish classics, flødeboller and pålægschokolade, thin slices of chocolate for bread.⁷⁵
