Why it is renowned
Vogue Hong Kong named the self-tanning drops among Rudolph Care's products in its 2019 guide to Danish beauty brands, and counted them, with the açai facial oil, among its award-winning products.1 Rudolph Care calls the drops its best-selling self-tanner.2
The story
The drops are made to be blended: one to three pumps go into the palm with a face cream, serum or oil, or four to six with a body lotion, and the colour builds over two to six hours.3 The tan comes from DHA, a sugar molecule that reacts with the amino acids in the top layer of the skin; aloe vera and açai extract are added for moisture.32 The drops carry Ecocert COSMOS Organic and the Vegan Trademark but not the Nordic Swan Ecolabel, which stopped approving self-tanners with DHA as a precaution.3 The drops are sold as The Classic, one of four self-tanners: The Lotion, a self-tanning body lotion; The Mousse, a foam for the body that gives a deeper tan; and Self Tanning Sun Body Lotion SPF 30, which joins self-tan and sun protection.2
