Why it is renowned
The British magazine hi-fi+ reviewed the D1.1 in April 2017 and called it the flagship of Raidho's small stand-mount models.1 Its reviewer, Chris Thomas, praised the bass as surprising in its extension and weight for so small a cabinet, and the build and finish as exceptional.1
The story
The D1.1 is a two-way stand-mount speaker built around the Raidho Diamond Driver and the Raidho ribbon tweeter.2 It was designed by Michael Børresen as a new version of the earlier D1, sharing only the main cabinet and the tweeter with it; the baffle, back plate, crossover and connections were new.1
Its 115 mm mid/bass driver was given a new motor and surround, which raised its efficiency by 1.5 dB.1 The cone carries a carat and a half of industrial diamond, about 0.3 g, bonded with graphite onto its ceramic surface.1 The drivers are mounted from behind on a two-piece aluminium baffle on a tapering boat-back cabinet, and the speaker sits on Raidho's own lightweight stand with ball-and-cup feet.1 It now belongs to the maker's Legendary series.2
