Why it is renowned
Enjoy the Music.com gave the 01 its US premiere review in the spring of 2019 and later called it the cornerstone of the then newly founded Børresen Acoustics.1 Hi-Fi+ reviewed the 01 Silver Supreme Edition, choosing it as the purest expression of the Børresen design: a two-way stand-mount with nowhere to hide.2
The story
The 01 was the smallest of four models in the 0-series, the others larger 2.5-way designs up to the 05 tower; all paired a large ribbon tweeter with a 115 mm mid-bass driver.2 Its RP94 ribbon planar tweeter plays from about 2.5 kHz with a moving mass of 0.01 g, and the bass and midrange membrane is two thin layers of carbon over a 4 mm Nomex honeycomb core, weighing 5.5 g.3
The patented motor uses no iron: four opposing neodymium ring magnets press the flux over two solid copper discs that act as pole pieces, cutting the voice-coil inductance to a small fraction of a usual driver's.3 In the Silver Supreme Edition the copper pole ring becomes silver, lowering it further.2 The drivers share a serial crossover, and the cabinet is braced, block-milled compressed wood in walnut veneer with solid walnut inserts, its shapes first drawn by the late Franco Serblin.3 Ansuz Darkz decouplers sit between the speaker and its stand.3 The 0-series has since been retired, and the T1 is the 01's successor.1
