Why it is renowned

The German magazine Fidelity reviewed the I-588, noting that it opened a fundamentally revised series after the I-180, I-280, I-580 and the flagship I-880.1 Its curved, matte case speaks the same design language as Aavik's larger 880 series.1

The story

Flemming Erik Rasmussen, who founded Gryphon Audio, joined Aavik's team in 2021, and he and Michael Børresen designed the x88 series together: Rasmussen the case, Børresen the circuits.21 The I-588 builds on the I-880, distilled into a more compact case.2

Like the I-580 before it, it uses Pascal Class D amplifier modules of 300 watts a channel, now with faster switching and lower noise.21 A resonant-mode power supply, active Tesla coils and a third generation of the analog dither circuits shared with Ansuz work to lower the noise floor.2 The volume dial is knurled titanium, and the back carries analog low-pass and high-pass outputs for adding a subwoofer or a second amplifier.21
