Why it is renowned

The British magazine Sound On Sound reviewed the TMA-2 Studio Wireless and wrote that they make cable-free headphone monitoring a reality, with a connection robust enough to walk around the room while listening to a session.1 It judged the sound good enough for composing and rough mixes, and noted that they could be the only headphones a musician needs.1 Artists shown using them in AIAIAI's gallery include Oklou, Andrew Huang and HAAi.2

The story

The Studio Wireless builds on the wired TMA-2 Studio and, like every TMA-2, comes as a kit of parts: S11 speaker units, an X03 transmitter, an H03 headband, ear pads and a cable, packed in bags of recycled plastic.21 It follows the earlier Studio Wireless+, with a different headband and pads and a new transmitter that brings the latency of AIAIAI's W+ Link down to under 10 ms.12

The 40 mm drivers have bio-cellulose diaphragms tuned for a detailed, balanced sound, and the over-ear cushions and headband are memory foam in soft PU leather; the headphones weigh 227 g.2 The battery lasts more than 20 hours over W+ Link and 40 over Bluetooth, and with the cable in they work as passive headphones.21
