Why it is renowned
The TMA-2 Modular Headphone System won a Product Design Lion at the Cannes Lions festival in 2015.1 The Chicago Athenaeum gave it a Good Design Award in 2016.2 AIAIAI builds its whole headphone range on it, with DJ, studio and wireless models made from the same parts.3
The story
The TMA-2 was designed in 2014 and 2015 by Johannes Becker, Christian Lorentzen, Peter Michael Willer, Frederik Jørgensen, Thomas Haderup and Jesper Andersen of Kilo Design in Valby, for AIAIAI of Copenhagen.21
Its idea is modularity: owners choose a ready model, build their own or add parts to a pair they have, and can upgrade single parts or change combinations as their needs and the technology change.3 AIAIAI presents this as a way to make each pair last longer and cut waste.3 The current range runs from wired DJ and studio models to wireless versions.3
