Why it is renowned

GRØD calls itself the world's first porridge bar.1 Condé Nast Traveler names it among the best restaurants in Copenhagen for a menu built on porridge from breakfast to dinner.2 In 2023 the Norwegian retail group NorgesGruppen agreed to bring GRØD to Oslo.3

The story

Lasse Skjønning Andersen opened GRØD on Jægersborggade in Nørrebro on 24 September 2011, at 21, after leaving music studies in London.1 A daily oat porridge had helped him lose weight as a child, and he went on to try other grains, cooking methods and toppings, and later savoury porridges.1 The house now has ten shops, a webshop and several cookbooks, and sells its porridge products in Danish supermarkets.1 Besides porridge the menu has bowls and several kinds of risotto.3
