Why it is renowned

Lampoon magazine gave Apotek 57 a long profile in March 2025, saying it draws the local community and design enthusiasts from around the world.1 CC Magazine wrote about it in August 2025 and recommends it for a next trip to Copenhagen.2 Both name its house-made pastries, preserves and juices, and La Cabra coffee.12

The story

The Copenhagen design studio FRAMA opened Apotek 57 in its Studio Store in the Nyboder district on 1 October 2020.3 Its founder, Niels Strøyer Christophersen, met the chef Chiara Barla at a pop-up dinner; work on the eatery ran from April to October that year.1 Barla grew up in Imperia in Liguria, studied Italian literature and art history, and cooked at 108 and Mirabelle in Copenhagen before opening it.1

The room is the old St. Pauls Apotek, a pharmacy from 1878, with its wooden panelling, shelving and cabinets kept, and furnished with FRAMA's own lighting, tables, chairs and tableware.2 Barla's menu changes with the seasons.3 It runs to focaccia, Turkish eggs and a sourdough croissant with miso caramel and sesame; milk, yogurt and eggs come from Søtofte Farm.1
