Why it is renowned

The American jewellery trade magazine JCK profiles the architect Sarah Emilie Müllertz and her jewellery house KINRADEN.1 The Jewellery Editor in London describes it as a Danish brand known for sustainable design in recycled gold and silver.2 It is stocked abroad at Bergdorf Goodman and Saks Fifth Avenue in New York, Liberty in London, 10 Corso Como in Milan and Andreas Murkudis in Berlin, and at shops in Tokyo, Seoul, Beijing and Hong Kong.3

The story

KINRADEN was founded by Sarah Emilie Müllertz, a Danish architect trained at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen.4 Before she turned to jewellery she ran her own design studio and was a partner and global head of design at Henning Larsen Architects.4 The name comes from an Old English word for kindred.5 Every piece is made by hand from four materials: reclaimed 18 carat gold, sterling silver, sapphires and mpingo, a nearly black wood long used for clarinets, sourced from a WWF-protected forest in Tanzania.5 Its production is certified by the Responsible Jewellery Council.5 The first KINRADEN shop is at Møntergade 3D in Copenhagen.6
