Andersen Hotel

Why it is renowned

The MICHELIN Guide selects Andersen Hotel among its hotels in Copenhagen.¹ Its inspectors note the bold graphics and colours in place of pale wood, the Muuto coat hangers, the Quilt of Denmark duvets and the Philippe Starck bathroom fittings.¹

The story

Andersen Hotel stands at Helgolandsgade 12 in Vesterbro, about 200 metres from Copenhagen Central Station.¹² It is the smaller sister of Absalon Hotel, across the street, and both belong to Absalon Hotel Group.²¹ Absalon opened in 1938 with 11 rooms; the family that owns it is now in its third generation, and the hotel has 161 rooms.³ Andersen is family-owned as well, and Karen Nedergaard is its general manager.⁴⁵ Its 69 rooms and suites are each decorated with wallpaper, cushions and curtains from Designers Guild.² The rooms come in four sizes, Cool, Brilliant, Wonderful and Amazing, and guests may ask for one of three colour schemes: Princess in purple and magenta, Mermaid in turquoise and lime, Emperor in blue and magenta.⁶
