Why it is renowned

Dyvig Badehotel was admitted to Relais & Châteaux in January 2022, the sixth Danish house to join the association of some 580 hotels and restaurants in 65 countries.¹ It is listed there for its waterfront setting on the Als Fjord and a kitchen built on local produce, above all from the sea.²

In 2025 it received a fifth star in the Danish hotel classification run with HORESTA, scoring 689 of 710 points; it became the seventh five-star hotel in Denmark and the first in Jutland.³ Its brasserie holds three stars in Den Danske Spiseguide and has been named Brasserie of the Year.⁴

The story

The hotel opened on 1 July 2010 in a nineteenth-century building on the water at Dyvig, near Nordborg on Als.³² John Bech Amstrup has run it since the opening as leaseholder, director and head of gastronomy.³ It has 17 rooms, two junior suites and four suites, furnished with antiques and original details alongside modern pieces.³²

The cooking is led by John Bech Amstrup and Christian Lebech and follows the seasons.² Dyvig Brasserie serves Danish and French classics with a view of the water, and Restaurant Amstrup & Vigen is the gourmet room a few metres from the sea.⁴
