Why it is renowned
Falsled Kro is a member of Relais & Châteaux, which lists it among a handful of Danish houses.12 Its restaurant, which cooks with French technique and Nordic produce, is in the Michelin Guide.3 Lene and Sven Grønlykke ran it from the late 1960s with international ambitions, and it is counted among the places where Denmark's reputation for cooking began.4
The story
In 1744 Count Reventlow was granted royal permission to run a tavern and distil spirits at Falsled.4 The inn later kept a general store, took part in the village's maritime trade, and served as a summer boarding house with dancing and a small cinema.4 Lene and Sven Grønlykke bought it in the late 1960s and made it a modern inn.4 It sits by Helnæs Bay in South Funen, bakes its pastries in a wood-fired oven and takes herbs and vegetables from its own garden.23
