Why it is renowned

Sanita clogs are sold through distributors in more than 50 countries.¹ The company set up a division in the United States in 2001, and in 2004 the American Podiatric Medical Association gave its Original collection the association's Seal of Acceptance.¹ They are worn in restaurant kitchens, hospital wards, salons and classrooms.²

The story

Christen Meldgaard Andersen, born in Vorgod in 1881, trained as a slipper maker from the age of 18.¹ On 4 February 1907 he opened a shop and workshop on Skolegade in Herning and made clogs for local masons, farmers and bakers, cycling to country stores with pairs under his arms.¹ His son Johannes joined in 1940.¹ Clogs with flexible soles followed in 1988, and by 2007 Sanita made more than a million pairs a year.¹ The clogs are designed in Denmark and made by hand in the company's factory in Poland.²
