Why it is renowned
In 2015 the American metal site MetalSucks gave Viking Blod a column of its own in a series on drinks for metal fans.1 It described the mead by its large ceramic bottle and pinkish-amber colour, and wrote that it could be found in most liquor and wine stores in the United States.1
The story
Dansk Mjød makes Viking Blod by adding dried hibiscus and ginger to its traditional mead of honey and water, with spices.2 The hibiscus gives the mead its reddish colour and its name, Danish for Viking blood.2 It is sweet and floral, 19 per cent alcohol, and the house compares it to madeira.2 It is bottled in 25 cl and 75 cl sizes, and in 3 and 10 litre containers.2
