Why it is renowned
In the 1960s the stainless-steel serveware Stelton sold was carried by department stores and design shops in the United States, where it stood for Danish design.1 Arne Jacobsen's Cylinda-Line won several design prizes soon after its launch in 1967, and later Stelton products have won the Red Dot and the German Design Award.1
The story
Two former soldiers, Stellan and Carton, founded Stelton in 1960 and joined their names for it; their first success was a stainless-steel sauce bowl from the Danish Stainless factory in Fårevejle.1 Peter Holmblad, sales manager from 1963 and later chief executive, was Arne Jacobsen's stepson; a sketch he brought to a family dinner led to the Cylinda-Line, launched in 1967 after three years of work.1 Erik Magnussen designed the EM77 vacuum jug in 1977.1 The Ring family has owned the company since 2004.1
