Why it is renowned

Blue Fluted Mega is a graphic reworking of Blue Fluted Plain whose hand-painted decorations enlarge the familiar pattern.12 It marked twenty years in 2020 with Mega Rose, a special collection by Karen Kjældgård-Larsen and the artist Mette Hannemann that adds sprayed flower silhouettes to the hand-painted pattern and went on sale on 1 September 2020.3

The story

Karen Kjældgård-Larsen began the decoration in 1999 as a school project at the Danish Design School, starting from the traditional Blue Fluted pattern, shortly before she and her fellow students formed the ceramics group Claydies.4 Royal Copenhagen introduced it in 2000 for its 225th anniversary.2 The first six lunch plates grew into a long range of pieces, and she draws new decorations for it every year.4 The decorations are still painted by hand.1
