Why it is renowned

The Old Shatterhand is the touring bike of Sögreni's three models, beside the Classic (the Louisiana bicycle) and the Young Shatterhand.12 Its 28-inch (700C) wheels and slightly higher balance point suit longer rides out of the city, and Sögreni recommends it for a child's seat mounted on the handlebars.2 Søren Sögreni says people find it looks a little like a 1930s Raleigh; he set out to draw a reliable, hard-working bike.2

The story

The women's version has a curved upper tube with a more elegant, classic line than the Young Shatterhand, and is a little heavier and stiffer.3 Every bike is assembled by hand in Sögreni's workshop to the rider's choice of frame size (five), gears (one, three or a stepless hub), colour (matte or glossy), Brooks saddle, leather grips, and bell and pedals in brass, copper or steel.12 Delivery takes eight to sixteen weeks, and the frame carries a 25-year warranty.1
