Why it is renowned
The TD1.2 has been reviewed widely abroad: 6moons tested it at length and pointed to earlier reviews by Kirk Midtskog in The Absolute Sound and by Roy Gregory in Hi-Fi+, who called it the most evenly balanced small speaker Raidho had yet made.1 Raidho presents it as the small speaker of the TD series for rooms under 30 square metres.2
The story
The TD1.2 grew out of the D1.1 that Michael Børresen had designed. Benno Baun Meldgaard reworked the inside of the cabinet for better airflow and redrew the crossover for phase, impulse response and an even impedance.1 The mid/bass driver was given a new underhung magnet system and a reshaped back to avoid reflections, the tweeter was revised to lower its distortion, and sensitivity rose from 83 to 87 dB.1
The driver's cone is coated with tantalum and diamond, and it sits with the Raidho ribbon tweeter in a solid aluminium baffle on a curved cabinet shaped against standing waves.2 The bass port has wings to cut port noise, and an optional Raidho stand in silver or black has soft suspension and built-in decoupling feet.2
