Why it is renowned
The CTA401 was Copland's first amplifier of the 1990s, and Copland says it was highly acclaimed worldwide.12 Its front panel, with rotary hat-shaped knobs set out symmetrically, has been a hallmark of Copland amplifiers ever since.12
The story
Copland introduced the CTA401 in 1990.23 The amplifier gave 30 watts a channel from four EL34 output valves, with three ECC83 and two ECC82 valves in the earlier stages.2
The CTA501 followed in 1991.3 The CTA401 is no longer made; Copland keeps its user guide, schematics and bias instructions in its archive of past models.2
